In January, no new fish will arrive in Animal Crossing: Northern Hemisphere, but no fish will go at the end of the month. The Pike, on the other hand, leaves after December, therefore players who still need to catch one must do so before September. In the Southern Hemisphere, the Cherry Salmon and Char will leave after December as well, but five new fish will arrive in January:

• Sweetfish: can be caught in rivers at any time of day from January to March, sells for 900 Bells. 

• Napoleonfish: can be caught in the sea between 4 am and 9 pm from January to February, sells for 10,000 Bells. 

• Puffer Fish: can be caught in the sea at any time from January to March and sells for 250 Bells. 

• Blue Marlin: can be caught at the pier at any time from January to March and sells for 10,000 Bells. 

• Ocean Sunfish: can be caught in the sea between 4 am and 9 pm from January to March, sells for 4,000 Bells.

The Tadpole will leave at the end of January as well, but it will be back in the Southern Hemisphere in September.

New Deep Sea Creatures in January 2022

In the Northern Hemisphere, no sea creatures will be arriving or departing in January, however the Mussel, Turban Shell, and Spiny Lobster will depart after December, making this the last chance for players to collect them before the season ends. In addition, by the end of December, the Chambered Nautilus, Firefly Squid, and Lobster will have left the Southern Hemisphere. In the Southern Hemisphere, however, three new sea creatures will be available in January:

• Moon Jellyfish: can be found at any time from January to March and sells for 600 Bells. 

• Giant Isopod: can be found between 9 am, and 4 pm, as well as 9 pm and 4 am from January to April, sells for 12,000 Bells. 

• Horseshoe Crab: can be found between 9 pm and 4 am from January to March, sells for 2,500 Bells.

So, in January it's a good way to get Animal Crossing bells by fishing these sea creatures.
